A.C.C.O.A. Kinship Program

The Threads of Kinship

In the realm of Love's embrace, we stand bound by the threads of Kinship, hand in hand. A tapestry of memories we've weaved, the family tree of love forever believed. Through seasons dance, our roots intertwine. Each heart a branch with love divine.  in joyous laughter and tears we share a symphony of love beyond compare . Through the trials faced we find our strength, together we'll go to any length.

ACCOA Kinship Program

Our state funded program offers Adult Caregivers 55 years and older who have assumed care of their loved ones children, $300 twice a fiscal year to assist with supporting them. As part of our program in 2024, we had a School Backpack drive.  a Thanksgiving Turkey dinner basket that provided each family with a full course meal, and a Christmas Giving Tree event  that promoted adopting a kinship family for the holiday.

We are hopeful to acquire many new faces to the ACCOA Kinship program family.

Our Goal is to give Kinship families a hand up not just a hand out and the ability to maintain a successful household full of love and affection not stress and misdirection.

The three main types of kinship care are informal, voluntary, and formal

Informal kinship care

  • Family members agree to care for a child without legal recognition

  • The parents and other family members create the living arrangement without court or child welfare help

Voluntary kinship care

  • A child welfare professional recommends that a biological parent place their child with a relative

  • This can happen when there are signs of abuse or neglect, or while the parents are in treatment

Formal kinship care

  • The state takes legal custody of the child and places them with a relative

  • This is also known as kinship foster care

Other kinship care arrangements:

  • Diversion kinship care: Children who have come to the attention of child welfare agencies live with a relative or close friend

  • Temporary guardianship: Biological parents grant a relative temporary guardianship

  • Fictive kinship: A non-relative has a significant emotional attachment to the child

PREVIOUS EVENTS:

School Backpack drive: Backpacks filled with

   schools supplies were offered to

our Kinship families last year and the remainder

of backpacks we have left are available for this year.

Turkey dinner baskets last year we provided

Turkeys and Food Baskets to help                                                                                                         kinship families with their Thanksgiving feast.                                                                                             It was a huge success!!

Christmas Giving Tree:  Last year we asked families

to provide a list of ideas for each family member of things

they need or want and we added them to our Christmas giving tree.

We are so grateful for everyone who volunteered to adopt a family

this past year. Thank you to the local businesses and

our local residents who stepped up this past holiday season.
